STEADI Screen with the Students from University of Puget Sound

Thursday, March 6, 1pm-5pm, Wellness Center 

University of Puget Sound students who are working towards their doctorate in physical therapy will be offering the CDC's Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths & Injuries (STEADI) screen at Franke Tobey Jones. The STEADI screen is designed to screen older adults for fall risk. The screen includes a questionnaire, physical assessment, and recommendations for decreasing each participant's fall risk. Furthermore, participants will have the option to do an additional follow-up with the students at a later date for more specialized exercise options. Bibimbap Workshop

Thursday, March 13, 2pm,  Wellness Center

Join us for a hands-on Bibimbap workshop, where you’ll get to customize your own delicious bibimbap bowl while learning about the rich traditions of Korean cuisine culture. This interactive experience will guide you through the essential ingredients, flavors, and technqiues that make bibimbap a beloved Korean dish. From perfectly seasoned vegetables, protein options and the signature gochujung sauce, you’ll have the freedom to build your own bowl just the way you like!  (Made possible by a generous donation to the Holistic Wellness Program).

 

Ballroom Dance Is Alive And Keeping Us Well!

Thursday, March 20, 2pm,  Wellness Center

This program will consist of a discussion of the health benefits of dance, performances, an introduction to a typical social dance at Pacific Ballroom including a brief lesson followed by dancing. Members of the audience will be invited to join if they wish. Presented by members of the Pacific Ballroom Dance Adult Program.

 

Aligning Lifestyle with Nature's Cycles: Winter to Spring

Tuesday, March 25,  2pm, Wellness Center 

The transition from Winter to Spring should focus on removing stagnation, supporting our body’s detox pathways, all while honoring the environment we find ourselves in. For example, it might be necessary to stay warm and bundled if it’s still wintery outside. We'll focus on simple practices that allow the potential and growth of spring to flourish, while also honoring and eliminating excess accumulation.

 

Restorative Yoga and Live Cello with Karen Laura Peters

Thursday, March 27, 2pm,  Wellness Center

Enjoy a calming and restorative yoga workshop with live cello & singing by Karen Laura Peters. This workshop will begin with gentle movements to ease into the practice. Then we will build about seven restorative yoga poses and rest in them for five to ten minutes each. The restorative poses will be accompanied by live cello and singing.  (Made possible by a generous donation to the Holistic Wellness Program).

Holistic Wellness Program

FTJ has an exciting and innovative opportunity to bring awareness to Holistic Wellbeing! Holistic Wellness addresses our body as a whole. This approach is key to longevity and maintaining independence as we age. Our unique program focuses on mental, emotional, spiritual, environmental, vocational, and social/cultural wellbeing.  

Programs offered through Holistic Wellness are provided by contractors, specialist, organizations and people from the Tacoma Community as well as Wellness Community Members and Residents who have a skill, talent, knowledge or expertise they want to share. These passionate people are invited to share their knowledge on a wide array of Holistic Health and Wellness topics.
