Discover Drums! Learning Percussion and Drum Circle* 

Join us to experience what music making can be like as part of a real drum circle! No prior experience is needed, and all instruments and materials are provided by the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association. Through these classes, you’ll learn the basics of playing percussion instruments, try out instruments such as a djembe, frame drum, talking drum, and more! Grow your drum skills in this fun and engaging environment.

Tuesday, October 8, October 15, October 22, & October 29 

Life Stories: The Art of Memoir*   

Students will learn the techniques used by writers - dialogue, narrative, tension, etc. - to craft successful memoirs. This 6-week class, running October 8 – November 12, will include study and discussion of effective memoirs and writing exercises designed to help students tell their stories.

In celebration of the Franke Tobey Jones Centennial this year, we are proud to announce the first ever Pacific Northwest Senior Writer’s Showcase as part of Franke Tobey Jones Senior University. Join us for this evening of awards and readings to recognize these wonderful authors.

Senior University at Franke Tobey Jones provides a wealth of lifelong learning programs for people 55 or better, for both campus residents and seniors in the surrounding community. This educational and cultural program designed for seniors is unique to Pierce County. Senior University offers the opportunity to build skills, explore new subjects and enjoy the learning process with others.   Lecturers and instructors are experts in their fields hailing from local colleges and universities, businesses, not-for-profits and cultural organizations, along  with others who have retired with rich career experiences. Most classes are offered free of charge as a public service to the Tacoma-Pierce County community.
