Art and Identity

Have fun using foundational visual arts techniques to explore and express your sense of identity and personal story. From vision boards to book making, this series offers space for everyone to create, express, and connect. All materials are provided, and no prior “art” experience is needed! This program was made possible through a generous donation to Senior University. Wednesdays, November 5, 12 and 19, 10:00 am, Tobey Jones Craft Room.

 

Discover Drums! Learning Percussion and Drum Circle

Join us to experience what music making can be like as part of a real drum circle! No prior experience is needed, and all instruments and materials are provided by the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association. Through these classes, you’ll learn the basics of playing percussion instruments, try out instruments such as a djembe, frame drum, talking drum, and more! Grow your drum skills in this fun and engaging environment. Fridays, November 7, 14 and 21, 10:00 am, Bristol View 1st Floor Bowditch Room.

 

Pretty Gritty Lecture: Tacoma Then and Now
Side-by-side looks at the city of destiny in its origin and how it arrived to where it is today. Thursday, November 20, 3:00 pm, Bristol View 1st Floor Bowditch Room.

 

Downsizing Your Home with Monarch Transitions
Local professional Senior Move Manager and Transition Specialist, Tina Baril, will be discussing senior move management and the challenges of downsizing your home. She will share some tips and provide handouts. If you are struggling with where and how to start, this is your first move in many years, or yet another life transition, this is the presentation for you! Monday, November 24, 10:00 am, Bristol View 1st Floor Bowditch Room.

Senior University at Franke Tobey Jones provides a wealth of lifelong learning programs for people 55 or better, for both campus residents and seniors in the surrounding community. This educational and cultural program designed for seniors is unique to Pierce County. Senior University offers the opportunity to build skills, explore new subjects and enjoy the learning process with others.   Lecturers and instructors are experts in their fields hailing from local colleges and universities, businesses, not-for-profits and cultural organizations, along with others who have retired with rich career experiences. Most classes are offered free of charge as a public service to the Tacoma-Pierce County community.
