Do More, Feel Better Program 

In conjunction with the University of Washington, we are participating in the "Do More, Feel Better Program."  What is it?  They are looking for people interested in a 9-week virtual program called "Do More, Feel Better" that is based on research showing that increasing participation in pleasurable and rewarding activities can lead to improvement in depressive symptoms.  If you are eligible to participate, you will receive up to $130 over the course of the Program.

The BUZZ About Bees - Stephen Balukoff and his wife, members of the Pierce County Beekeepers Association, will be at the Senior Center on Tuesday, May 7, at 1:00 p.m. to discuss bees, their importance and more. They will also have a honey tasting. Please sign up in advance. 

 

Shield Healthcare - Do you have Diabetes? Do you need injections? If so, you may be interested in a Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) device that helps individuals with diabetes to track their glucose levels continuously throughout the day and night. This system will also provide 24/7 monitoring alerts day and night. Learn about possibly getting this free through insurance, May 15, 11:00 a.m. 

 

Bracelet Beading - Join Diana Sharon from Lighthouse and learn how to make beaded bracelets. Supplies will be furnished. Friday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. 

 

Connection Between Diabetes and Dementia - Did you know that there is a connection between Diabetes and Dementia? Join Dr. Adrienne Ione on Friday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m. to discuss this topic. You’ll have a chance to ask questions and get answers. Please register for this class. 

 

New Card Games - A beginning Spades class was requested, and we have added it to our calendar on alternating Mondays with King’s Corner. Both of these popular games will be at 1:00 p.m. Check the calendar to see the actual dates for each class. 

 

Intro. To Computers - Do computers intimidate you? Do you want to learn about computers? Ron Yaden will be teaching another Introduction to Computers class beginning Wednesday, May 22, at 9:00 a.m. Space is limited so be sure to register early. 

 

Women’s Group - There are lots of topics to discuss, but some are not comfortable in mixed company or sometimes you just need women to talk to. Join Chris Johns as she leads a monthly group just for women. It will be held on the first Thursday of each month at 12:30 p.m.

Beacon has a new reopening date - Monday, May 13th.  In the meantime, continue to enjoy classes and programs at either Lighthouse or Point Defiance ~ Ruston Senior Activity Centers.

  • Women’s Discussion Group – Meets in the library every Wednesday @ 12:30pm 

 

Collage Craft – May 2nd at 11am

Make a picture frame from decorative paper. 

 

Smart Phone Class – May 3rd at 10am

A class to help participants better understand how to use their cellular devices.  

 

Musical “Shrek” – May 6th  at 12:45pm

Join us for a live performance of the musical, performed by the students at the Tacoma School of the Arts. 

 

Mother’s Day Tea Party – May 9th at 10am 

We will be hosting a Mother’s Day tea at 10:00am on Thursday the 9th of May. 

 

Interactive Workshop – May 14th at 12:45pm

Join us for our ongoing series of workshops with Aundi and Lani, to assist with continuing life changes. This month’s topic is Home Loans. 

 

Avoid Senior Scams – May 28th at 12:30pm

Learn about different types of scams focused on seniors and how to avoid becoming a victim.
