September Class Highlights

Wednesday, September 3, September 10, September 17 & September 24
The Musical Theater of Rodgers and Hammerstein
In a partnership lasting only about 15 years, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II created many of the most memorable musical works for stage and screen. Their work together racked up 34 Tonys, 15 Oscars, and even a couple Pulitzers and Grammies. In this series of lectures, we will look at the works from their fruitful collaboration, from the ground-breaking Oklahoma! (1943) to the ever-popular Sound of Music (1959).

Thursday, September 4, September 11, September 18 & September 25
To Feed and Water the Passions: Poetry Writing on Food & Family
Food traditions, whether passed down from ancestors, created a year ago with friends or as personal ritual, help us not only be on a path toward whatever our version of health and happiness is, but it also acts as a bridge to be in relationship with people, places, values and concepts. Together we will discuss a bit about the role food plays (or played) in our lives, then work through writing exercises and memory practices that will guide us toward meditation on the myriad ways in which food connects us to community. We will read examples of famous food-focused poems and then write our own versions. Some examples of possible writing prompts will be food odes (praise poems), epistles (letter poems), and hybrid poem recipes.
10:00 am - 12:00 pm, Bristol View 1st Floor Bowditch Room

Thursday, September 4
Best Sex Ever After Menopause
While perimenopause and menopause are increasingly discussed, the sexual health needs of post-menopausal women are often overlooked. Bremerton resident Dr. Carol Remz, an 80-year-old grandmother, author, and passionate advocate for senior sex positivity, is changing that with her groundbreaking new book, "Best Sex Ever After Menopause," published by W. Brand Publishing. Carol will be speaking at Senior University to celebrate World Sexual Health Day. Her engaging presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Books will be available at the presentation for purchase and signing. This program was made possible through a generous donation to Senior University.
