Upcoming Understanding Dementia Classes

Jake Gamble from Generations Home Care will, once again, be presenting four Understanding Dementia classes this spring.  If you’ve ever attended any of his classes you know how wonderful they are.  He is a deeply compassionate person with a wealth of knowledge and experience dealing with people with memory loss and their loved ones coping with the journey.

Classes will be held in the FTJ Care Center Gathering Room from 2:00-3:30 on following days.  Please RSVP to Adelia Nunn at anunn@franketobeyjones.com or 253-756-6278

Some topics that will be covered:

  • Various types of dementia and how they affect people differently.

  • What are the signs of dementia?  What to look for?
  • How to address and cope with difficult behaviors.
  • How to let go.
  • Family dynamics around memory loss.
  • Should your loved one go to a memory care community or adult family home?
  • How to resolve issues with out-of-state family who see loved one with memory loss infrequently (while the local family member is dealing with the challenges of daily visits).
  • Waiting too long.  How to know when to move your loved one out of the home.  What are the signs?  How does one know if the loved one still has a year or more left at home?
  • How to visit with a loved one who doesn’t recognize you anymore?  How do you cope with the heartbreak of your loved one not knowing who you are?

As in previous Understanding Dementia classes, if you want, please bring your own issues that can be discussed, and solutions brainstormed.

About Jake Gamble

Jake was born into an Air Force family, and thus has lived throughout the United States. He moved to western Washington to attend St. Martin’s University, where he graduated with a degree in Biology. After working in memory care in Coeur d’Alene, ID for several years, Jake moved to Tacoma to help start Generations Home Care. He and his wife, Jessica, are happily raising three children (Michelle, Zoey, and Caleb) and some other pets (2 dogs and 4 chickens). Jake started Generations Home Care in hopes of building a care team that formed deep connections with clients and their families, providing excellent care, and honoring the lives of our clients.
