Are you are caring for a loved one with dementia? If so, you know this poses many challenges for families and caregivers. People with dementia from conditions such as Alzheimer’s and related diseases have a progressive biological brain disorder that makes it more and more difficult for them to remember things, think clearly, communicate with others and take care of themselves. In addition, dementia can cause mood swings and even change a person’s personality and behavior.
You might be noticing that your loved one has some memory loss and/or might need help in some activities of daily living like medication management or dressing. What are the first signs that may show that your loved one just isn’t “right.” But, does your loved one need memory care? What are some signs that you should be looking for and is it time for memory care? Over the course of the four sessions, we will be talking about caring for someone with dementia, communicating and speaking the language of your loved one who has dementia, and so much more.
New Understanding Dementia Classes at FTJ
This spring we are bringing back Jake Gamble from Generations Home Care to present information about understanding dementia in four separate sessions. He is a wonderful, compassionate care giver and a wealth of information regarding Alzheimer’s and other dementias. He will help you to more clearly understand this disease and the challenges it may be presenting to you or a loved one and will be open to any of your questions.
The sessions will be held March 29, April 19, May 11 and May 24, so please mark your calendar if you are interested in attending. The classes will be held in the Gathering Room at the Franke Tobey Jones Care Center from 2:00-3:30 and will include a tour of our Memory Care or Assisted Living areas if you are interested. Our guest speaker will be Jake Gamble, the owner and administrator of Generations Home Care, a locally owned business in Tacoma. He has been involved in caring for seniors in some capacity for the last decade, spending the first portion of that time working in memory care and doing training with the Alzheimer's Association. Jake's passion for training families, quality care and understanding the disease stem from his time loving and serving the families that have walked through Alzheimer's and other dementias.
