Symphony Tacoma, established in 1946 and becoming a professional orchestra in 1993, presents a season of classical concerts, holiday pops, and Handel's Messiah at the historic Pantages Theater. Led by Sarah Ioannides, the orchestra features over 80 orchestral musicians and a dedicated 70-80 member volunteer chorus. This symphony is recognized for its innovative and diverse programming, engaging approximately 20,000 individuals each year through performances and educational programs like "Simply Symphonic" and "Symphony 2U" for schools. The Symphony Tacoma Voices is the affiliated chorus, directed by Dr. Geoffrey Boers, performing major choral works with the orchestra. Building community through music is their desire, and they are deeply committed to their role as one of the hubs of Tacoma’s cultural sector and dedicated to the belief that the community is made stronger and more vibrant by experiencing great music together. Symphony Tacoma aims to make classical music accessible, offering a variety of performances that foster community.
